Hi Everyone,

I have a two month old iMac that seems to have a backlight issue. I was using it yesterday and it just suddenly went dark. I could still see my cursor and icons, but there was no light.

I turned it on this morning and it seems to have went away. I have an appointment with an Apple authorized service center today and wondering how to replicate this problem. I’m worried that they will tell me that there is no issue and I’ll be stuck with this ongoing problem.

Any suggestions?

Just took it to Apple. They are replacing the whole screen. Total cost was $951 + $100 labour of it wasn’t for Apple care.

Just thought I’d update that it’s been a while and the monitor replacement didn’t work. They are going to try the logic board.

Quite a shame to experience that. Especially having it happen twice - don’t think I’ve ever seen an iMac with intermittent backlight fault being on the logic board side before

I was thinking the same thing. I have a feeling that it’s going to fail on them. But let’s see what happens. I’ll know in 24 hours.

Just got it back. They replaced the screen and logic board. All works. Replacement costs were $1700

So you bought this Mac new, two months ago? Why did Apple make you pay out of pocket for the repairs? Isn't your warranty still in effect?

OP did not say that was a paid repair. Apple often will tell you how much a warranty repair would have cost if there was no warranty.

They repaired it under Apple care but wanted to post the amount just case this happened to someone else in the future.
