So I am running 11.1 on my 2020 iMac 27". I've had this problem since Catalina. The iMac runs fine, and when I am done for the day I just walk away and let the iMac just sit there until the next day. The next day I will start using it, and everything seems fine except videos won't play. When I click on them they just freeze. Rebooting fixes it.

Any thoughts what could be causing this?

I have no idea as to what's causing it.

But I have a suggestion for you:
Shut the iMac down at night.
Then... reboot the next day.

What works... works...

LOL! Yeah, I guess. But I'd rather find out what is causing the problem.

This is a screenshot of my Energy Saver preferences. I am guessing it has to do with something happening when the Mac goes to sleep. I am going to check "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically" to see if that has any effect, but that kinda defeats the purpose.

I was just wondering if that was happening to anyone else

Have you tried a different browser / program? Are you leaving the browser open all night? Have you checked console logs to see if an error is being logged?

Awesome questions. No, I only use Chrome. Yes, I am leaving the browser open. I checked the logs but couldn't find anything interesting. I should probably try Safari to see if I can rule out the browser, but I really, really dislike Safari. I can use it to troubleshoot though. Thanks!

Interesting. While trying Safari and checking the logs, I found this:

Jan 5 11:23:58 iMac Safari[2324]: getattrlist failed for /Library/GPUBundles/AMDRadeonX6000GLDriver.bundle/Contents/MacOS/ATIRadeonX6000SCLib.dylib: #2: No such file or directory

Wonder what that is about?

My /Library/GPUBundles folder is empty. Also, I can’t find any references to “GPUBundle” in my system log.

I’m still running Catalina though. Are you running Big Sur?

Well, it appears that preventing the computer from going to sleep fixed the problem. Or rather prevented it from occurring. I am not too concerned about energy savings. Are there any other ill effects from checking this box?

You can probably use leaving it on 24 hours to your benefit by scheduling your maintenance routines to happen while you’re asleep (Backup, photosd analysis engine, cache cleanup, etc.).
