Hello all,

With the ongoing need for online school for our 5th grader, we need a computer for him, and also for family use. We have a 2009 iMac that is just not cutting it. We were looking at getting the current 27-inch iMac, but the chip transition has me second-guessing the purchase. We need the computer ASAP, which is my dilemma. I have heard Jason Snell suggest to get an M1 Mac mini instead. It's an interesting idea, and I see the merit in that suggestion. But a part of me doesn't like the monitor options for Macs. The Pro XDR is out of the question. LG Ultrafine is still expensive for what it is, plus it's not an Apple-branded display. (Silly criteria? Maybe.) Dell monitors are okay, and I have the 2718Q that I use with a MBP, but the display never looks as nice as an iMac. With rumors of a cheaper Apple display, maybe going with the M1 Mac mini is the better choice. What do you all think? Thanks.

I had a similar decision in that I had been use Apple 27" Cinema Displays for 10 plus years. I wanted the hub ports on my monitors so opted for the 2 Dell gaming display (DELL S3220DGF Display) which were discounted over the holidays. The slightly curved screens also made a big difference in the glare from the evening sun. If you go with a dual set you will also need a thunderbolt dock for the second monitor.
