Hi all

I’m after a bit of advice

I have a 2020 iMac 27” - Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD

As we are not sure about the new iMac dates - I’d like to crank up the RAM in this one for the time being - I use all the Adobe software i'll not max out this one but would like to improve it a little

My options are:

• leave the 8GB that came with the iMac and ad in 2 x 32GB for a total of 72GB
Or
• buy 4 new x 16GB for at total for 64GB

It works out roughly the same price but I read somewhere that its better to discard the original RAM and have 2 matching pairs, same spec, same brand etc.

Any info or advice would be greatly received

cheers

Damo

This thread goes into fine detail about why you don’t want to mix RAM sizes in the 2020 iMac. I personally replaced the stock 8GB RAM with 2x32GB chips for 64GB RAM and 2 spaces available should I decide to ever max out at 128GB.

Post #85 onward start getting into the details. Post before that were troubleshooting, experimenting and guessing.
