Because the video card in the in the 21.5" imac is a mobile card would their be any difference in the MBP 9600GT 512MB and the ATI 4670 256MB found in the imac 21.5" for gaming ?

Just looking on the Apple store at the top-end imac 21.5" and the output is 1080p with a 4670 ATI card. My current MBP has a 9600GT 512mb but a lower native res.

Is the CPU on the imac also a mobile chip like the MBP or a full fat intel cpu ?

9600m gt is miles away slower. th 4670 is quite a great card. even the 330m 512mb isint that close to the 4670, though 512mb is a great advantage for extreme multitasking of graphics procesing

so for gaming its a good card

If you get a 27" imac with that card its going to have to work harder to power the extra native res right ?

incorrect. i was playing portal just this morning. native res, highest settings with AA off.

Awesome, I stand corrected!

How is the performance? My new iMac is sitting at home was just delivered 15 minutes ago. I want to go home! lol

The mobile 4850 is good enough to play all modern games with the exception of perhaps crysis, at at least 30 fps on 27 iMac's native resolution.

The mobile 4670 will probably struggle to do that, so you'd have to take graphics down to a mix of high and medium.

For video encoding, would the 4670 make a big difference as opposed to the 9600?

Just brought a imac
