Hey Everyone

Just been looking around the internet and have found that the new iMacs aren't as good as apple claim. I was planning on getting the ATI Radeon version of the 21.5" iMac. (The reason I don't want the 27" is because it won't fit on my desk!!) But because of these bad reputations the new iMac is getting I was thinking of getting a refurbished Macbook Pro 17" from Apple (The March 2009 model) Portability isn't a main concern because I have a Powerbook 12" that I use for work, so the Macbook Form factor isn't a necessity.

Any advice would be great!!

Only minority of iMacs are defective. Two of my friends have 21.5" iMacs and they have had no issues. Also, all problems are software related so they can be fixed easily

So do you think that I should get the iMac over the Macbook Pro 17". Do you think there is a big performance difference?

Thanks for the quick reply

Performance will be quite same (depending on what 17" MBP you were looking at) but 21.5" iMac is 1499$ while cheapest 17" refurb MBP is 1949$ so there 450$ difference. Also iMac has 4 RAM slots which is IMO huge benefit.

Thanks for the great advice, Hellhammer. I think I will go with the iMac. Does anyone else have any other advice?

If you didn't have a laptop, I would recommend the Macbook pro, but since you do, go with the iMac (make sure it's the ATI version). Great computer.

most of stories about new imacs have problems are 50 people out of hundrends of thousands imacs sold. i've been following up on the issues as well and more than 90% of the problem comes from snow leopard issues, not with the imac itself. I would strongly recommend you imac. It's only a personal opinion but any laptop larger 15" is not worth it since laptops' higher price premium is at its portability. I use 21.5" imac and it's absolutely in fantastic working order. I'm not recommending you imac bcoz i own one but i really think there isn't a room for juxtaposition given the price difference and performance.
