Hi

I have a mid-2011 iMac and I am a music producer and usually needs more than 2 screens to work.
All the parts are stock like the graphics card is the AMD Radeon 512mb.

Is it possible to have 3 extended displays running from iMacs thunderbolt 1 port?

Some of the options that I have found are the thunderbolt docs like Belkin Thunderbolt 1 express dock and OWC Dock.

What I am not sure if with the dock would split the thunderbolt display and give me 3 extended screens.

Thanks for all the help

Not possible according to Apple specs. Your iMac will only support 2 Thunderbolt displays from its TB output. You can check with OWC support to see what they say about their dock.

Thanks for your reply. But I have a 21.5” iMac mid 2011 which has only 1 thunderbolt first generation.

Could you please tell me what are my options?

Thanks

What I replied to you came from Mactracker specs for your particular iMac:

Wi-Fi Built-in AirPort Extreme card (802.11a/b/g/n)
Bluetooth Built-in Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
Ethernet 10/100/1000BASE-T (RJ-45)
Modem None
USB 4 - 480 MBit/s
FireWire 1 - 800 MBit/s
Thunderbolt 1 - Thunderbolt 1 (up to 10 Gbps)
Display Thunderbolt digital video output (Support for up to two Thunderbolt displays)
Infrared 1 - For Apple Remote only
Audio In 1 - 3.5-mm analog/optical combo input jack, Built-in microphone
Audio Out 1 - 3.5-mm analog/optical combo output jack, 2 - internal 17-watt amplifiers, Built-in speakers

Have you contacted OWC support and asked about their dock? There may be other options that you can use, but consider... your 2011 iMac is going on 7 years old. It may be time to replace it with a newer iMac or MacBook Pro that can support 3 displays. I know that means spending $$, but if as a music producer you really need that capability for your business, it may be worth thinking about.
