iMac 23"

I just wanted to know what everyone thinks of having a iMac 23". I have no clue if apple plans on releasing a 23" imac or not. I'm just asking if you guys would like the idea or not.

Pricing from a 17" to a 20" imac is $400 difference, pricing from a 20" to a 23" cinema display is $500. At the most you would see is a $500 difference as apple could handle that.

I think this could be done and I would really like to see it on apple's imac market.

a lot of you are thinking "why not buy a powermac? pricing is about the same". Well, no. Pricing is not the same as a powermac starts at $1999.00 plus a 23" display $1299.00 and a powermac at $1999.00 comes with 512mb ram and 160gb hd. You will need to upgrade.

powermacs are still great to buy as some people require 3+ monitors running or do heavy graphics on the system and require it, but an imac 23" would help the ones who want very little space taken up which is why I, myself would want a 23" imac. What's everyone else's thoughts on this?

Man I'd love to have a 23" iMac. I have two 20" ones atm in my study but still sometimes think I'd rather have had PowerMacs with 23" displays

I'd like to see a 23" imac, but I think it would definitely come with 1 GB RAM and 250 GB HD. Priced at about $2200 or $2300 before applecare. That would be a really nice computer.

I would think it shall come when they cancel off the 17'' iMac, which they should do for an eMac intel 17'' LCD

However a 23'' Consumer iMac might be over kill for most

I'm not sure an LCD for school kids is such a great idea. That tough, heavy CRT is one of the things that made the emac so great for schools.

The iMac was designed for the "average" home user, and I think that 23 inch displays are (for now) a little big for the average user.

Unless they do Photoshop (which the average home user hasn't even heard of).

LCDs suck for in school. Younger kids (elementary school) always touch the screen when they point. They suck with older kids too - my LCD in my computer class has a HUGE scratch/cut down the middle (and it wasn't there at the beginning of the year).

They would still have 17" and 20" iMac's. If the average home user does not need a 23" display I'm sure they would not order it as it would be over kill for someone who does not need it.

For the ones who program, web designs, graphics, movies, photos, ect.. a lot of them are doing things on imac's now running 2x 20" or 1x20" and 1x 23" or 30". I think an iMac 23" would be nice on the market and would not be overkill as it does not just target the average home user.

I think if apple were to release a 23" imac tomorrow it would outsell the current imac intel 20" thats been on the market for a few months now. I myself would purchase it the day it's released.

Remember when the 20" iMac G4 came out, and everyone thought that was rediculously huge? Give Apple some time, they will definately release a 23-inch iMac. I mean, the pros can get 30"s now, everyone needs a 23, right? Really though, i realize that most computer people don't need that right now, but since when does apple design stuff for now?

Oh, and i would definately buy one.

I hear what you are saying, but what if they put some heavy duty glass, like they use for touch-screen security consols. It is similar to the surace of the eMac's?

I made this post 6 months ago, and by-and-large I stand by it...

I have recently bought a Rev B iMac 20".

I will replace my machine, when the following iMac is released:

23" viewing area minimum
1/2 - 1 inch thick
Nothing below the screen (i.e. the bit with the logo won't be there)
Wall mountable
Integrated TV tuner
Full media centre capabilities
Bluetooth remote
Intel (obviously)

5 years ago I would never have believed that there would be a machine as beautiful as the iMac G5. And today most people don't believe that there will be an even more jawdropping machine in 5 years time. But there will be.

I remember the same question rising with the G4 iMac... The practical issue was: how big should the (half-spherical) base be to avoid this huge screen to tip over ???

More specifically, I'm surprised by the number of enthusiastic answers. However, if the 23"-iMac were to be an article for "exclusive" customers (i.e., the ones who have the space, money, and need to get something more than 20", which I suppose is less than the rest of the iMac target), it might not cover the development costs for Apple; therefore I doubt this future...

I've been an owner of an iMac G5 20" for more than a year now, and I've been really happy with the machine and the display - but I must say that 20" is already big, and sometimes too big, when you need to scan the surface. I've been wondering about the headache/neckache/shoulderache you might get from a 23" or more ? Unless it's placed 1m away from you?

Oh well, maybe I'd fall for the 23" iMac as soon as it'd be released anyway...

It's funny, people always want the iMac to be built as a PowerMac (or whatever the future names will be). But the iMac is a middle line, and will never have the best options - which includes ram and video card -.
But if it's just wishful thinking, then fine.

When you see the heat issues with the iMac, I wouldn't want a model where the whole motherboard is placed behind the LCD display. I still have a G5 model, and it gets noisier with the summer weather ! You need surface for heat exchange...

My iMac has no heat issues at all. I leave it run 24/7, the only option I have set is to turn off the screen when not in use after 1 hour. the system itself is always running and always connected to the internet.

As for this being talked about.. I searched like 4 times for "23" iMac" and "23 iMac" and nothing came up. I did the same thing a while back with Invasion and I knew there was a thread too as I posted on it a while back. I did not check the date it searches tho (how many months old) I just thought about that as I was typing this
