Imac 24" 2.33 Core 2 Duo....more than 4GB of RAM?

Hi, I'm getting an Imac 24" 2.33 ghz core 2 duo, 2GB ram with final cut studio 2 loaded on for $800 US. I'm most likely going for it but I wanted to find out if I were to buy a snow leopard upgrade DVD (the Imac has Tiger on it right now), how well would it run compared to Tiger and would it be able to recognize more than 4 GB of ram? (As it stands right now, it seems that with Tiger on it is keeping the limit to 3GB of ram)


I would like to add 8GB of ram to it if possible. I will be doing a lot of motion graphics editing on it.
 
FYI, you should check to see the maximum amount of ram you use now. I notice a LOT of people blow money on ram when they don't need it.

Snow Leopard seems to move faster than Tiger.
 
Not sure the model number but it was the update right before Leopard came out, I'm guessing 2007.

So snow leopard seems to move faster...what other benefits are there to it and should I invest in a DVD of it or is Tiger just fine?
 
If you want to be able to use the latest software, drop $29 and get Snow Leopard.

The model number is under the foot of the iMac.
 
IMO, do NOT buy this machine. For $999, you can purchase from Apple a Refurbished iMac 21.5-inch 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo W/4GB ram.
 
Even with 64bit snow leopard, I wouldn't be able to use 4GB of ram?

I will take the advice of a poster above and see how the 2GB performs for me. I am accustomed to PC's and from what I know in that environment that more RAM makes a drastic difference in high performance activities. Perhaps macs make use of smaller footprints better?

Thing is, I'm also getting Final Cut Studio 2 with this machine and no need to pay for shipping. (living in the Caribbean...shipping expenses can add as much as $250 US.)

So I'll be going with it, but I just wanted to understand the full limitations of the system. Does not seem horrible to me, especially if I put $29 US to buy snow leopard.

Hi,i have the same machine it's the late spec 2007 WHITE iMac.
3gb is the limit.
i had tiger,leopard now snow leopard.
for my own personal use,snow leopard is money well spent coupled with a new version of iLife enjoy
