Hi Folks.

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I just made the leap from an iMac G5 to an Intel iMac 24". I was looking at my system profile this weekend and something didn't make sense to me. I am wondering if somebody is willing to answer my question.

I see the attached photo.

It says only one processor. What does the "Core Two Duo" mean, then? I thought that was two processors, each with dual cores. If this is correct, then what did the original "Core Duo" mean (without the "Two of "2" in it)?

I just want to make sure everything is correct.

I appreciate your help!

Hi,

I think you are getting confused with nomenclature.

You're unit has only 2 Core Processors in it.

Core 2 is a branding scheme used by intel and Duo indicating that you have 2 of the "Core 2" Processors inside your system.

The original Core Duo branding was simply 2 of the original "Core" processors. Hence the Core Duo name. Think of "Core" and "Core 2" as being the same thing, "Core 2" is just an improved "Core"

Hope that helps.

Core 2 Duo is 1 processor with 2 cores. Core Duo is 1 processor with 1 core.

No, it isn't. The Core Duo is a dualcore processor of the first Core generation. The second Core generation would be Core 2 and the upcoming third (somewhere in 2009 for the mobile variant) would be Core i7. Please refrain of answering a question when you don't know exactly or stipulate that you don't know exactly.

Thank you!

Hey, thanks folks for your help. It's nice to know I can come here and get an answer every now and then. Thanks for taking the time and have a great day!

Brad
