I have a 24' Imac aluminium, and i cant burn dvd`s faster than 3x! (as so toast says)
Toast recognize de media as a 8x dvd, i choose this speed, but when burning starts, the speed average is 3x.
As it is still in waranty, i had the drive replaced, but the problem still occurs.
What could it be?

9 times out of 10, for me anyways, that is bad media and not a bad DVD Burner. What DVD media are you using?

i tried 4 differend sorts of media.
all 4 burn perfectly (8x) at the other macpro we have here.

the burner is a Matshita UJ 85J

Can you compare the setting between the two computers? Also what kind of information are you trying to burn to DVD? Also you might want to try taking an air can and carefully blowing air through the DVD Burner, but not too much. It could be a simple problem of just the lens having a smug of dust on it.

the dvd burner is brand new, i dont believe it`s dirt...

i tested by burning the same files on both Imac and Macpro, with the same version of Toast.
the imac is 2.4 4gb ram, the macpro is 2.something and 3gb ram

I`m burning photos, like 110mb each file.
everything works normal on the macpro.

Ok at this point I would call Apple, if it is not the DVD Burner itself, it could either be the cable connecting the DVD Burner to the motherboard or maybe even the motherboard itself, but I would defiantly call and complain.

I would tell them that you have run multiple tests with different media and the maximum you get is 3x.

I am sorry I could have not been more help than this.

so far mine burns around 3x as well. but i've only tried one type of media - the cheap crappy type.

I use Maxell Media and have always been limited to 3x burning speeds as well... mine is a C2D from fall of 2006. I wonder if it is just a limitation on these machines? I may have only a 4x write burner, tho.
