iMac 24" alu - A few monitor problems

New to this forum and to the mac world as well.. So hello everyone

I recently ( 4 months ago) got my first mac. A shiny 24" iMac. I am very happy with the switch, and love OSX..

But I am beginning to be a little disappointed with the monitor. I have searched a few forums and sites and it seems like the 24" got issues as well as the 20".

What I am asking for is what people normally do with these issues? Learn to live with 'em, prey they will go away or run into the nearest mac shop?

I have attached an image trying to explain my issues. While in daylight with lots of light and reflections the errors are not THAT visible, but during night when lights are out they are very pronounced. I have a couple of other monitors and from a cheap no name 17" to a Dell 24" (2405) and none of these are in any way as bad as the mac monitor.

Also the other day I got a bsod (allthough it was checkered screen of death) right after a power-up from sleep mode. A cold boot was needed.

Please look at my two images and tell me what to do. I would hate to say good bye to the iMac, but to be honest I feel it's below par when it comes to the monitor.

take it into an apple store and tell them to fix it... hopefully they can just order a new display and have you come back in and get it fixed same day, so you don't have to wait...

Take it in!

You paid for a 1 year bumper to bumper warranty, you should use it! There is no reason you should have to live with a monitor like that.

ALL monitors can have problems, not just the 24" iMac's.

If you have had this computer for only 4 months and you're having these issues, run, not walk to the Apple store and have them fix it!!! This is simply unacceptable for a brand new computer, especially one of this caliber.

I also have the 24" Intel iMac that I just purchased in January, and it's perfect! (knock on wood).

No problems at all whatsoever—and that's even after my daughter knocked it over after a week of having it and it landed on the monitor. Ugh!!!

I will make a backup of the computer, pack it and pay them a visit..
Just hope I can show it clearly in the shop as it is most visible at night after some hours of running..

oh yeah... there have been several threads about these very screen issues since the alu iMacs were first released last year...

i've gone thru 3 iMacs myself... the first was very bad, the second was a nightmare, and the third (current) is between bad and acceptable... i've written to apple about this, and they've called me back... you should do the same.

you should make your voice heard to someone other than the robot "genius" at the apple store... these images you've created and excellent representations of exactly when the iMacs screen bleeds / mura effects look like and you should send them to sjobs@apple.com - sometimes he write back personally, but usually one of his minions will call you back. they are helpful, and *seem* to be concerned, but in my experience every iMac suffers from this problem... some worse than others.

there's a program called Light that you can use to check your screen for these problems.

Scared to hear that the problems are so frequent... I did bite the bullet and went for an ACPP, just so I knew I could call someone in the next 3 years..

I did talk with the guys at Apple and after some going forth and back it would need to go to a service apartment and I should have it in 14 days

Oh well at least they will pick it up...

Not sure how I can live without the iMac for 14 days, but I won't just accept the screen is crap.

I will cross my fingers and enjoy my ooooold Dell monitor while I wait. Unfortunally it's attached to a windows machine..

Im about to buy a new imac but they told me that the 24 inch display is much much better than the 20, (in color proyection issues) is this true ?

It should be a better panel
It should show better colours

But looking in different forums I am not sure anymore... The 24" also got a LOT of issues...
