I was wondering what display resolutions are available on the 24' iMac. Mine is running the ATI HD 2600 Pro and there are no resolutions between 1344 x 840 and 1920 x 1200.

This is odd because I just got a replacement iMac because the optical drive wasn't functioning correctly and on the previous one I recall there being resolutions such as 1600 x 1000 and 1600 x 1200.

I would like to run mine at 1600 x 1000 as I can not comfortably read text at 1920 x 1200 but I find there is not enough screen real-estate at 1344 x 840.

What resolutions are other users getting? Any insight into the problem would be much appreciated.

There have to be more resolutions in System Preferences > Displays > Display. Are you using that cute little icon on the menu bar on the top?

If there really aren't more options on that menu, two alternatives:

1. Use Ctrl-scroll to zoom. Hold Control while scrolling your mouse to zoom in and out.

2. LCDs look really bad when they aren't at their native resolutions. In System Preferences > Appearance, turn off Font Smoothing, to make things clearer.

I thought there was an option somewhere to make text bigger, but I guess I was mistaken.

Alright thanks for the suggestions.

I was talking with Apple and after exchanging three different iMacs in store to no avail, they finally admit that theres some sort of problems with either the firmware or the graphics card.

Hopefully this issue can be resolved with a simple patch. Anyone else not seeing resolutions between 1344x840 and 1920x1200 on a 24 in 2008 iMac with the 2600 Pro?
