I am looking at getting the iMac 24 with the 2.66 processor and 4gb ram. Has anyone used the creative suite with this computer? I want to know if it will work well, I have an iBook G4 right now and I know it wont run on that. I will be doing some video work (not super extensive) and a whole lot of digital photography and web design. I just want to make sure it is the right computer for me. Thanks!

I'm debating the same thing. I will be using CS4 and maybe a little Final Cut and After Effects in the future.
I thought it was set on getting the top 24" model since I was debating iMac vs. Mac Pro... but if the base 24" can handle what I need it to do then the lure of the price is too tempting to pass up.
The ONLY reason I'm having second thoughts is the 9400m integrated graphics... should it be good enough for my needs?

Yeah I was looking into getting the 13.3 Macbook with the 2.4 but I really think that for my money I will get way more out of the iMac. I am starting college next year so I will just take my iBook to class and take notes and I will use the iMac for my photography business.
I was going to save up for the top end 24" iMac, but i thought for the value for money, the 2.66 model would make more sense. So i bought it and have had it running for about 5 days now.
And its been working like a dream, i've done everything that the OP wanted to do, apart from after effects and its not even flinched, whereas my mini just died under the pressure.

You can, but 4 GB modules are expensive. Not as expensive as what Apple is charging (as usual), but expensive nonetheless.
These will become cheaper with time. Me, I should be able to get by with 4 GB until they do.

6 months ago, I bought a PC laptop (Asus G50vt-x1) for college. I spent $350 to up it to 8GB (DDR2-800).
Then I went Mac (DDR3-1066). Upgrade kits are $600.
Of course, DDR3 is faster, more heat prone, needs higher quality materials, et cetera... I haven't yet spent because I've not finished a cost analysis between going 8GB on my 24" iMac and 15" MBP or spending thrice that to get an entry level quad core Mac Pro w/8GB and ATi 4870 video... I'm leaning toward RAM, as while I use After Effects to make web ads and such, Photoshop, Dreamweaver , and once in a while VMWare I use much more. This iMac (24", 2.93GHz, 4GB) certainly feels faster than Vista in EVERY way, even if my quad core PC running Vista is technically faster... hard call to make...
