Imac 24" - How do I get HD content on it ?

Sorry if this has been stated in another thread but I searched and didn't find anything that related to my problem.

Ok - I have an Imac 24" - and I live in Japan so my room is small. What I want to do is to use my Imac as a media hub (and get rid of my TV) so any help would be welcomed.

I would like to firstly - watch HD content on it - using a hd-dvd drive (x-box 360 hd dvd player is the cheapest here) or a blue ray drive - If I can't do this in OS X then Can I do it in Windows under boot camp ?. I also have a PS3 so is there a way to connect the dvi port to the HDMI cable on the PS3 (i know that you can buy cables - but how do i get the mac to display the PS3 screen) or someway to display the PS3 natively on the mac ???

and if you live in Japan, Do you know of a HDTV tuner for the imac ?

The problem with your whole plan is that the iMac's miniDVI is a DVI output, and not an input. Thus, you wouldn't be able to just plug it your PS3.
It's also kinda hard to install an HD tuner into an all in one. Sorry
You can, however, have blueray or HDDVD drive.... not internally, but if you get one with an external enclosure, you can hook it up via firewire. I would suggest not getting rid of your TV just yet.

For the HD tuner - I was thinking like a USB or firewire based external one (like the eye TV range of products) - if there is one available, Would it be possible to feed the PS3 HD signal through it to the mac.

elgato hybrid does HD digital TV but only if its available via freeview

There is no way currently to get high-definition video from a local source (a standalone hd-dvd or bluray player, or ps3) into a mac. There are tuners, from Miglia and Elgato, which allow you to tune broadcast HDTV whether over the air or fed over cable lines digitally.

Your only option for the PS3 is to take in an analog standard-definition signal using a TV tuner with component inputs.

I do not have any experience with using hd-dvd or bluray drives with macs.

OS X Tiger doesn't even currently support the UDF 2.5 filesystem used on HD DVDs and Blu-ray discs, so external drives of this nature will not function. Leopard will, but there's been no word on what kind of support will be in place for decoding/decrypting these formats.

So there isn't any input kinda box that can display 1080p on my Imac...

Any other ideas about getting hd content on my MAC ?
