Hi I'm running an IMac 24inch on OSX 10.5.1 and have an apparent issue with the headphone socket. I have been using this to connect to an amplifier / external speakers and it has been working just fine, however now when the lead is plugged in the internal speakers can still be heard and no audio travels to the external amp. Any advice is gratefully received, as best I know there has not been any undue force on the socket. With thanks

Did you unplug the speakers for any reason? Its easy to plug them back into the wrong socket. It's a silly mistake but I've made it before.

Hi, thanks for this. I'm actually missing headphones as an option under the Sound window, I just have internal speakers, which might explain it. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks again
There are contacts inside the headphone jack that detect
the presence of inserted analog or digital audio plugs, and
automatically set the "Built-in Output" type to: "Internal
Speakers" or "Headphones" or "Digital Output".
Sounds like the plug-detection is failing on your machine.
Try removing/re-inserting the plug several times and/or a
light application of electrical contact cleaner (RadioShack)
and/or or 90% isopropyl alcohol.
