well i love the clarity of the internal speakers, but they need help in the bass department, and i have a sub i want to hook up to the headphone jack..

but when i do that the internal speakers quit working (as they normally should)

so my question is ... is there a way to get both "outputs" working at once? cuz i would really like to hookup just the sub and not have to have any external speakers on my desk.

thanks in advance

YES and NO.

YES: The hardware could do it -- because the "startup gong" always
comes from the internal speakers, even if headphones are plugged in.

NO: Neither Tiger nor Leopard seem to provide any way of driving the
internal speakers while there's a plug inserted in the headphone jack.

...nothin' in TheRuleBook sez it has to make sense,
