iMac 24" Lighting Issues

I could be wrong, but comparing my iMac to my old iMac G5 17" Rev.C everything seems bloody lighter, websites, safari icons at the top. Is this how its meant to look, the whole 30% brighter or what ever it is...

4 dead or stuck pixels (2 Green, 2 Red) - can i make a claim?

Issues with backlight bleeding around the corners - claim again?

Yeah, the immense brightness which you can't turn down that much was one of (many) reasons I've returned my 24" iMac. I think you have a case for returning due to 4 stuck pixels, but you may have to persuade them. Have you tried a small app called Brighness Control - google it, it's not perfect, as it messes with the gamma settings to lower the brightness as it can't control the backlight, but it does do what it says, and tones down that contrast as well.

Honestly if i was you guys i would def change to a darker dekstop picture thats what the guy at the apple store here locally was suggesting because they are quite brite. I was messing one at a Authorized Apple store MacAuthority in Nashville and it was kinda dimm in the room and the 24" iMac looked great.

Forgive me if this seems too obvious here, but I own a iMac 24" as well (no stuck pixels luckily) and F14 / F15 adjust the brightness of the screen, and I am able to bring it down pretty good. It is truly a bright screen, but that's why Apple gave us the ability to adjust brightness. Am I missing something?

f14/f15 works on the brightness controll for me too and im on a 20 inch imac. you learn somthing ever day

My first iMac 24 did have 8 stuck pixel and I called to Apple store and they agreed to change it to new one.

Apple will be giving me a refund.

Everyone with one, turn down the brightness and see if you can hear a humm noise increase

i will be buying the new macbook pros when they come out

Get more dead pixels. Sadly, I can't tell you how MANY you need and what type.

I found my 20" many times brighter then my 17" iMac. Even at the lowest brightness setting. I attribute this to the large screen area.

Every LCD monitor I have ever owned has had 2 or more dead pixels... (And the biggest I have owned was 19")

When I got my 24" I expected a few dead pixels. (I searched for 30 minutes when I first got it.)

To my suprise my 24" has 0 dead pixels! woot!


Why are you complaining about the brightness? You can turn it down with F14 or in Sys Prefs...

Personally, I love the brightness as it is. Just don't use a white desktop picture and it's fine. Right now, I stick with the default blue background.

Mines had 12 stuck pixels and my macstore told me i could change it for a new one if it has 7 stuck or dead pixels, thats their policy or apple's. Now i have to wait another 2 or 3 weeks because mines was a CTO 24" iMac.

During the day if your screen is on full brightness it hurts your eyes but then i dim it all the way down. During the evening its ok to have it on full brightness

Well, the ones I have had have a minimum brightness setting much brighter than the max of many other displays I have used. Don't get me wrong, it's great during the day, but in the evening it was just too overwhelming.

Lucky I have no dead or stuck pixel on my 24"
I wish they will never appear...
