I think if I ever bought a machine with enough ports to handle all of my equipment, I'd just keel over and die. The fact is having four Thurnderbot 4 ports with this machine is very nice, but I really need some USB standard USB ports to run a few things such as:

Data cable to UPS
Data cable to Fujitsu book scanner
Data cable to Plustek slide/negative scanner
Data with power cable to external CD/DVD/Blu-Ray player/burner
Data with power cable for old Lightning devices
Data with power cable to LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt USB-C 5TB external drive
Data with power cable LaCie Mobile Drive, 5 TB, external drive

So does anyone have recommendations on hubs? The CalDigit TS4 looks nice, but it's also damn near $400. So would something like these 10-port jobs work?

I have a seven-port version that's similar to the 10-port one above, and it will not even run one LaCie mobile drive, much less two.

All suggestions appreciated. Thank you.

Go on ebay and look for a Caldigit "TS3 Plus" ("plus" is important) thunderbolt 3 dock.

Yes, I realize it's "only" tbolt3.

But you can find these selling used for under $100.
Many in very good shape.
Some "new old stock" as well, for a little more $$$.

Looking over your "list" above, doesn't look like anything in need of tbolt4.

And you'll still have at least one more tbolt4 port (on the back of the iMac) available for when you do get a tbolt4 device...

Thanks, guys, for the advice. I will take it under consideration. Much appreciated.

I use this with my 2017 iMac:

Almost all the ports are occupied: Blu-ray drive, scanner, three Brother label printers, a couple of external drives, etc. Works great. I selected this one mainly because I wanted one that could be mounted.
