iMac 24" or Dell XPS 210?

dont know why pc talk is on here, people here are loyal to macs, but...IMAC!!!!! SO MUCH QUIETER!!!!! more powerful, simpler, apple is gonna have a new operating system in less that 2 months, imac is more efficient, and can run windows, sumthing that pcs do lol, except u get more with macs, im a switcher

I had/have an old iMac G5, that machine was loud... well for a mac. If it got hung up and left on, you could mistake it for a cessna taking off. I was worried somewhat getting the mid 2007 iMac that it would have the same problems. However, now my only problem is actually knowing if it on or not half the time because it's that quiet. (When the monitor is off of course, When it's on I can kinda tell if the machine on)
The Dell could be configured to be way more powerfull. I think it really depends on what you need the PC or Mac for. If its for gaming def go with the Dell.
But the video card selection for Macs is the biggest joke in the computing world.
To get the Dell XPS 210, you'd have to get an upgraded graphics card to even think about gaming. You never want to be stuck with an integrated graphics chip.
What often happens when trying to match a Mac's performance on a Dell...you end up spending a few hundred dollars more, and for an inferior product made out of plastic.

As people say, depends on what you want it for. I have a 24" imac, and it runs nearly silent even under load. I actually did a comparison with a dell, and for the same spec, the imac was actually cheaper (with similar parts, and a 24" monitor), and it will look a lot better I'd say.
But if you really need more power, or want to upgrade it regularly, and don't mind using windows instead of osx, the dell might be a better choice. If you're into games.. well, i think the 2600xt in the mac is actually very good, unless you're into playing the very latest games at high res/full quality. Then you'd need to buy more of a high end card.

I think you are stretching that way out of proportion. Not having a large selection of GPU's doesn't mean that Macs are worthless in terms of graphics performance. The Mac Pro's have great cards available for them and the new iMac's Radeon HD 2600 XT is a DX 10 card with decent performance. Gaming is not a computer's claim to fame anyway but remember that design graphics ARE the claim to fame for the Macintosh. Apple is not going to purposely have terrible GPU options knowing the graphics pros that need Macs.
Oh yeah, sure, the rest of the computing world is laughing at Apple. Everything Apple does is a joke.

Why do people get so steamed up about computer platforms?
Apple's OS is very good and will be better when Leopard arrives. It's range is a trifle odd, though, its support is simply not industrial strength, and the company is starting to exhibit Microsoft-like hubris.
Dell, on the other hand, is stuck with MS Windows (though it supplies Ubuntu Linux on some models), has a fine range, and (after a stumble or two) excellent support.
Because of those considerations, I bought a Dell Precision 690 instead of a Mac Pro and, till Apple sorts its support out, would always choose a Dell above an Apple. Sorry, folks! My only regret is that I can't use OS X, though SuSE 10.1 with VMware Workstation is not too bad.

This is in contrast to the things that I have read. I'm pretty sure that Apple has higher consumer satisfaction, more highly rated tech-support, better brand loyalty, faster rate of growth, more highly awarded design team, more highly awarded advertising campaigns, a better CEO, more awesomeness ... and so on. Dell does have more models of computers, which has advantages and disadvantages.
Wow, you find dell support better than apple? I work in an IT department, we deal with both apple and dell, and while apple can mess up at times it's NOTHING compared to the hell of calling dell support. I was told once that we'd voided the warranties on all of our PCs (probably getting on for 2000 of them) because we'd replaced dell's XP installation with a corporate version! Although I must say, when you FINALLY persuade them that a PC is faulty, their support at that point is very good.
I worked for two months this summer in our local big computer store (the sell Apple's as well) - I was their "Mac guy".
It always amazed me how people decided between Mac and PC.
This particular case was choosing between a pink Sony Vaio and white MacBook 2.16:

(me) - Macs' main advantage over PCs is their operating system
(me) - also, this MacBook model although 50$ more is thinner, has a much faster processor, is lighter, has MUCH better battery life, MagSafe port, very comfortable and big trackpad, much better design and port locations, etc etc...

Remember, NEVER compare hardware specs when choosing between Mac and PC - its the OS that's most important. Even if I get offered a super-mega-ultra PC with SLI 8800 GeForce and Core 2 Quad or a much slower Mac (like iMac, even CoreDuo) - I'd take the Mac without ANY doubt. Thats because I can't stand Windows. Its the WORST OS in the world, I dont get how people use it - they probably dont know about the alternatives!

mac, get mac, u get the best of both worlds, and even better, mac pro if u have gaming INTENSE gaming that u want to make the best of and run bootcamp on it, forget PC, get mac, im a switcher, you will NOT regret it

While I understand this is an Open Forum at the same time it's a Mac platform forum so why are you here if you don't use anything Mac?
One of the only posters that hit the nail on the head. Truthfully I am tired of this "I can get a Dell for $300 less than the Apple with the same or even better specs". Who cares, because the bottom line, would the Dell be a deal maker for me? No, because I don't want to use Windows at all.
Agreed, 95% of time you are not looking at the physical hardware or thinking about the specs while using the computer it's about the OS. Dealing with the Windows Registry is a deal breaker alone.
I'm not sure why the OP would expect people on a Mac forum to tell him to buy a Dell machine. If you are even considering the Dell you have no interest in OS X and this discussion is sorta mute.
The XPS 210 can only take half height cards so it will be very hard to get a good graphics card for it. The iMac probably has a better graphics card now than you will be able to get for the 210. I think the max a 210 can take is a 8300GT or 1300XT, so the 2600 Pro in the iMac is leagues ahead.
Wouldn't bother with it really unless you are only out to save money.
I just got a XPS 420 (Dimension 9200) though for 650 eur with 8600GTS so i'm happy

I would buy a new 24" iMac over a Dell anyday of the week. And actually I did just that. I love my new 24" iMac. It's sweet. This is my first mac since my dad bought the IIe in 1986 I believe. I've only had this mac for a week but I can tell you I'm never ever going back!
