Hi,

Currently using a PC and have been eyeing the iMac 24" for a while. I think that i might be ready to trade up and jump back into the mac arena but the problem is i need an "all-in-one" system to save space - but the iMac would fall flat for entertainment (read: games) and my current PC is much better in terms of graphics power than what the iMac has to offer. So thats why im going to grab myself a 360/PS3....

The problem with this plan though is, the iMac 24" has a great 24" display, with is HD (unless im mistaken) and would be really great if i could hook up a console too it. It would really save space - and money. But i have a feeling that like the iMacs before it... you cant do this.

I hope im incorrect, but can someone tell me (since ive not had much luck in reading reviews) if its possible to hook an XBOX360 or PS3 to the iMac's 24" display?? If not i think Apple are missing something pretty vital for an "all-in-one" system there.

Oh and on the subject of graphics (kinda) i hear the iMac has upgradable graphics, but there are no products available (stand alone) to use. Has apple said anything about the possibility of this changing? Them offering some upgrades or something. Ta.

check out the elgato products, eyetv 250 and eyetv hybrid.

also, i would strongly recommend waiting until wwdc (worldwide developers conference) which starts on june 11. it's looking very likely (although, this is rumor) that apple will update the imacs with a new case design and better specs if not before, then around june 11.

i've got the money for my 24", and have for about 3 weeks so far, but i'm waiting until they update the line. whether or not they redesign the case, i'm going to get it at the next update, but i'd suggest you do the same, as it's long overdue.

If you can wait a month or two, iMacs are due for an upgrade in which they may get a better video card.

although the imacs display is 'HD' (well higher at 1920 x 1200) the elgato products will only allow you input at std resolution (i use the hybrid for my wii) unless its for HD broadcast

I wonder if yo could transmit an HD signal through the coax cable from your system?

the eyetv hybrid will only let you connect your next-gen console through composite. while this is better than nothing, it really does not take advantage of your lcd. i personally have the dell 24" lcd, and have it hooked up to my mbp through dvi, another laptop through vga, and my 360 through the component port. i dont think an all-in-one can ever match an individual unit.

you can never get quite ALL in one. Theres always something that you cant quite fit in!

i know the elgato products don't allow for hd lines in, but at the moment they're the only solution that i'm aware of for getting any signal in, without using a _really_ expensive video converter box.
