Hello I bought the new 24" iMac with the integrated nvidia graphics. The problem is I can't focus on anything and I get a lot of eyestrain. Is it the screen refresh rate? response time? glass screen? graphics card? I have until tomorrow to take it back and get the white macbook. After reading text for a few minutes i feel like my eyes are spinning. There is also a lot of light coming from the mac. Someone please help!

Brightness way too high? Are you sitting too far away from the screen?

LCDs don't have a refresh rate really so they don't cause eye strain. I imagine excessive brightness could be the culprit. Nearly all manufacturers have their screens setup too bright so they look vibrant in a store. On most monitors you'll want to turn the brightness nearly all the way down when using them at home.

oh and it doesnt have anything to do with my eyes either. i have been using computers for more than 10 years without a problem. EVER

It's that crappy video card. There, are you happy now? And all that light coming from the iMac? Well that sounds like something good from Haight-Ashbury! On a more serious note I can tell you that I've had major eye strain (mostly when viewing text) on my girlfriends (don't tell my wife) newer macbook with that card. After doing some digging around it would seem it's not an uncommon complaint I'm sorry to say.

i feel like i have gotten permanent eye damage from this imac. arh its going back tomorrow. i havent had any good experiences with apple. my ipod died atfer 3 weeks now my eyes have been fried... i always wanted a mac but i dont know if i can give them another chance. if i tried to plug in an external monitor would that help????

I went from a 20" to this 24" and it took me an entire week if not 2 weeks to get used to the screen size. As for the light coming from the Mac - try calibrating the screen to use television gamma and/or lower the brightness.

I have an iMac 24" 2.93 GHz (WITH A DEAD PIXEL!:() and have experienced the same symptoms as you described. My eyes have been watery, feel strained, and using the computer at night I have to turn the brightness all the way down! What's going on?
