I'll run the hardware diagnostic tonight, but i am pretty sure 1 fan out of 3 is dead.

My imac made louder then usual sound for awhile. At first i thought it might be my HD, so i replaced it. But the sound came back. After few days however, it resided. But now, it's too damn quite. So, using few software utilities, to check up on the temp of the fan, it was only registering 2 out of 3. I'm not sure which fan it is, hence, hardware test.

I have no apple care, btw. Question to the forum, has anyone replaced a fan on their own? If so, where can i go for parts?

any thoughts to this is much appreciated

I had a similar problem with my MacBook Pro my left fan was defective and it was making a strange clicking noise...i've gotten parts from here before ifixit.com also, have you tried using the widget called iStat Pro? it tells you which fan is doing what
