iMac 27' 2017 and Lightroom 6, Bad.

I finally bought iMac 2017

3.8GHz quad-core 7th generation Intel Core i5 processor
8GB 2400MHz DDR4
500 GB SSD
Radeon Pro 580 with 8GB video memory

But Lightroom is working very slowly. Optimization is done, there's nothing you can do about it.

Develop tab works very slowly while editing between pictures.

It looks like no difference either iMac 27 '2011 and 16 gb ram or iMac 27' 2017 and 8GB.

I am waiting for the new 32GB of RAM, totaling 40GB. But as far as I count in forums, it does not even benefit from 128GB.

RAW photos are LACIE HDD RAID 2TB Thunderbolt with Adapter to USB 3.1

Try to create previews in library module before editing photos. You can use SmartPreviews for better performance, and check if you got GPU Acceleration on in settings too.

Where is your lightroom library located? If it’s on your external HDD with the RAW files, that’s probably your bottleneck.

I am using same Lightroom, have photos coming in raw format from a Nikon D600 so quite big files.
I have the imac 27, 2017 with 2TB fusion (where catalog is located) and normal external USB3 enclosure with 500GB SSD where photos are located. Everything is really smooth!
I also have the Radeon Pro 580 but 16GB RAM and the i7 CPU

Yes, I use an external drive. But my old iMac 2011 with 16gb ram on the same external drive was faster than the new iMac 2017 with 8gb ram.

It's because of the resolution - you got there 5K display .. and Lightroom which is piece of c... in terms of efficiency.
