Hey, is it possible to have 6gb ram on iMac? Currently I just bought my 27" i7 imac and it has 2x2gb ram. I know it has 4 slots, so 2 more slots left. I have 2x1gb ram left from my Macbook Pro upgrade, is it possible to put it in my imac, so it would have 2x2gb + 2x1gb in total of 6gb ram? How does dual channel work, will it work in this case. What would be better if dual channel wont work with this setup to go back to just 4gb or 6gb?

Also last question is, I remember reading someones thread about how his friends Win7 boot up faster then his imac 27" and someone suggested him to change some hard drive setting and that made the boot up time a lot quicker. Could someone tell me how to do that? I cant seem to find it under Win7 OSX boot up time etc.

Thanks in advance

Hey, its for my macbook pro last yrs new ones 13" . I just put it on and it works, it does show up as 6gb of ram.

My main question was 2x2gb + 2x1gb would dual channel for the ram still work to increase the speed?

Also how can I increase the boot time for my osx, I read somewhere that without setting imac will try to find the correct hard disk to put in, if you specify which to boot it will shorten boot time by alot.

Thanks

Dual-channeling doesn't boost that much but it should work because it's 2x2GB and 2x1GB.

I doubt you want to increase it :p I guess you meant improve (that's it for the grammar lesson)

Open System Preferences -> Startup disk -> Select your OS X HD/partition and reboot

Give OnyX a try as well, it usually speeds up a lot

I would just add another 4GB(2x2GB) set to it and make it 8GB. For the price it isn't that much right now. I got my 4GB set for $100.
