iMac 27" condensation / Glass Problem

I just received my new iMac and when I booted it today I had a 4 x 4 inch square condensation patch on the screen just below the webcam. It took 20 minutes to disappear. As the sun was shining through the window I also noticed marks on the screen. First of all I thought they were on the glass and so I wiped the screen with the cleaning cloth, but these are marks are under the glass. Worse of all I also have 4 stuck pixels which are down the centre of the screen. Surely this should be replaced. Any advice would be appreciated. I live in Spain and so there are no Apple Stores here.

has anybody opened one up and its all been perfect?!?

mine had no o/s! yours looks like theyve been using the screen as a sledge along gravel! some are smashed.....

this really is rediculous.

send it back mate, you deserve something in better nick for the price of these units.

Yes people HAVE opened up perfect iMacs. Me for instance.

I called Apple and after a bit of confusion they said that they should be able to exchange it. First of all they said that I need to take it into an Apple Store but as we don't have any here thats going to be difficult. I cannot even exchange it at a reseller here as they do not sell the i7 model yet.

I have to call back monday as the department that deals with replacements is closed. At least I have reported it, thats the main thing.

I called Apple back today and after waiting 20 minutes in a queue I managed to speak to somebody in after sales. They were very helpful. Unfortunately she said that I will have to wait 3-4 weeks for the replacement.

FWIW, this has been happening ever since the first iMac -- their design isn't "sealed".

If they're used in a moist environment, or subjected to a quick temperature change, the back side of the glass can "steam up", just like a pair of glasses would in the same situation.

thing is though, theres loads cracked, doa in poor condition and some with no os installed (mine included) seems like their not bothered about the QC on this model

Today when I booted it I noticed marks on the inside of the glass. It looks like small blobs of condensation, about 20 of them on the bottom left of the screen. They distort the image on the screen.

What is going on......

Strange indeed, but could it be your house/town/apt or something? Two iMac's in a row both with condensation?? Kind of hard to believe here.

Get a big suction cup, pull the glass off and wipe it with a lint-free cloth to see if it removes the condensation. Google for imac clean screen or something... there are videos out there.

FWIW, this has been happening ever since the first iMac -- their design isn't "sealed".

i protest the
first iMac was the g3 tray loader and it had a crt screen ..no condensation there
the second iMac was was the g3 slot loader , and it had a crt screen ..no condensation it was even convection cooled (no fans)
the third was the iMac g4 , and it had a lcd screen without glas ..no condensation there

the first imac was a intel imac who had a glass in front of the screen
which does not matter that much really , but you are right with the new iMacs wich have a glas front but as its only hold on by magnets and not airtight as you pointed out its only a matter of change in temperature between inside and outside to create condensation how easy that is will everybody who wears glasses know

another big source of condensation will come with the alloy back as alloy is very good in creating condensation ,just remember the first windows double glazing with alloy frame you got always a puddle after a temperature change under them , thats why they changed to plastic frames
ok you wont get puddles under the new imacs at room temp but it could well be puddles created in the shipping process , with changing temperatures on flights and on ships

On the first iMac the condensation was very different. It was more of a smear or smudge and cleared after 20 minutes. This time its the size of little pin pricks and in different places on the screen. When the computer is off you can see the marks on the inside of the glass.

I know that the glass comes off but I am really worried about damaging it and then not being covered by AppleCare. I also don't have any Apple Stores here cos I am in Spain. I will give it a couple of days to see if it clears by itself, if it doesn't I will call Apple. Perhaps I can take it to an Apple reseller service center here and they can take the glass off to clean it.
