is your computer some how covered from the back ... make sure there is enough space for behind it too for air to pass.. some people keep there imac too close to the wall , giving less space for heat to pass

what's your ambient temp that sound pretty high at idle. mines in the 35's

Have you got any thing stuck in the print queue, or an app running in the background you don't need (or particularly know about)?

hi i have just pulled forward a bit as it was, say 1.5ft from the wall?
i only have a download in safari coming in that will take 4 hours but that shouldnt demand much on the gpu should it?
cheers

My GPU is at 46C while I'm typing this. If the ambient air is 18C, the GPU shouldn't be that hot idle. It's 24C in my room right now. I have my iMac about two feet from the wall.

Fan system sucks air in from the bottom (by the speakers) and puts it out the back at the top. Just make sure everything in the airflow path is clear.

Is the CPU temp also high or is it just your GPU?

hmm maybe it was having a moment... as i am writing this post i have the following temps.
ambient air 21c cpu heat sink a 39c gpu heat sink 56c gpu 57c cpu1 42c cpu 2 38c cpu 3 43c cpu4 36c.

the desk is clear nothing underneath? Do you think it is okay? are the stats above more normal ?
cheers
