Hello

Before I'm going to sell my brand new iMac late 2015 model with radeon m395... Im wondering , Will there be an external GPU solution for the thunderbolt 3 port ( no external GPu solution supporting thunderbolt 3)? or at least use the iMac screen as a monitor for a regular windows PC ?

Is there an ETA for when either of the two might happen ?
If not , then Im about to sell my mac and buy a windows machine with a gtx 980 Ti...

Thank you

get the windows machine.

I was wrong.. For some reason i thought the new imac's have thunderbolt 3... But they actually come with thunderbolt 2 ports.. Does this change any external GPU solutions for the imac?

There are several options.

Build a gaming PC/buy one and keep your Mac for the non gaming tasks.

Sell the iMac and get a windows machine and use it for everything.

The least expensive option right now is to buy an X-Box. I have an X-Box One and a gaming PC that doubles as a workstation in addition to my iMac. The graphics on the X-Box One are close enough at 1080P that unless you are used to having better lighting and partical effects and 60 FPS you woudn't even notice a difference. I say this in all seriousness. If you have been gaming on your Mac you will be happy enough with an X-Box. Save your pennies and don't take a bath on selling an otherwise very nice iMac.

If eGPUs do actually take off I'm sure they wil have a dual link option that allows both TB2 ports to be used to drive one graphics card at pretty much full speed.

New external GPU solutions that come out will be Thunderbolt 3 (twice as fast).
I wouldn't bother with them under Thunderbolt 2.

but no guarantee it will work with the imac screen. still may only drive an external monitor.

I'd probably be surprised if it did work, so yeah, I'd not wait but as others stated, build a machine or buy a PC.

Any idea if the 300$ upgrade from m395 to m395x on the new imac is worth it? Will mainly be playing the devision and new tomb raider games
