iMac 27 inch flickering screen only in bootcamp windows 7?

Ok this is weird. I got my i7 iMac last week. It's a week 51 model.

The screen appears perfect. I don't see any yellowing and I didn't have any screen flickering issues in snow leopard.

However, I installed bootcamp with Windows 7 professional and while browsing the internet in Windows 7, I notice that the screen flickers and causes the grainy checkered blue/white image as seen on my photo. What's going on? Is it a Windows 7 issue? Or a screen issue? I have a legal copy of Windows 7 professional but I am only going to use the legal key once I determine everything is safe to keep.

Again I don't seen any flickering on snow leopard in my 27 inch imac. It's only in Windows 7 within bootcamp partition.

Also my stupid sound doesn't work in windows 7 with bootcamp. I searched all over the internet and these forums and tried uninstalling the files and installing the realtek files directing from their website but it doesn't work (the red light is on in the back of the imac)

If you're not having issues in Snow Leopard, I'd say it's a driver issue in Windows 7. Find out what graphics card is in the machine, go to the manufacturer's website, download the latest Windows 7 driver for your graphics card and it should solve your problem.

I just got a 27" core i5 (no idea what week), and I have the exact same problem. I am planning to try installing winXp to see if that exhibits the same behaviour. I have a collegue who just installed win XP on his (which should be identical to mine since we bought them as part of the same order), and he has no problems so far. My thinking is that this is the exact same problem that was fixed (or worked around) in OS X.

driver issue. had something similar with Windows 7 and an old Dell laptop i gave to my inlaws. ended up installing Vista on it.

make sure you install the latest drivers from Apple or manufacturer drivers. ATI has a set that will work on all their products. uninstall the current ones first, reboot and install the new ones. it's an executable and will run an installer to install everything
 
I will try the ATI drivers tonight, and if that does not work, i'll try to install XP to see if that works any better... I am still inclined to beleive this is a hardware issue tho... When the error occurs windows reports the following when it coms back up: Display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered. A quick google suggests that people mainly fix this by replacing their graphics adapter. But lets see what results I get tonight.
 
Ok, have the exact same problem in windows xp, even with the newest ATI drivers. I bought my mac from an authorised reseller, and i am going to try to get them to replace my mac.

Ok, called apple, they said to run 'Apple software update' in windows - I did and i'm trying it out in XP now... so far i have seen no problems.
 
I have this issue happening on one 27 inch iMac as well (ATI 4850 Video). This was just purchased a few weeks back, and already had the latest display firmware installed on it by apple (at least according to the latest firmware update I tried installing on it from apple.)

I have tried updating drivers, and tried updating bootcamp none of which has worked.

While this isn't a complete fix, it seems to be a workaround that I haven't had any issues with yet.

Go into the display properties and turn the hardware acceleration down one notch.

You can find this option in the display settings, advanced, then the troubleshooting tab.

Not sure if this is going to stick, but for about 10 minutes of playing around with it I haven't had the issue since.

Also for reference, I have another 27 inch iMac i am currently working on with Windows 7 installed on it with no screen issues, or other issues once I got past the black screen in the install. This one has an ATI 4670 in it.
 
Nevermind, it has started to come back slowly.

I am using driver version 8.661.0.0

I am going to try different driver versions to see if that fixes the problem...
 
does it stay or go away?

i have something similar on my work issued HP laptop. once i hit the screen it goes away and comes back randomly
 
Ugh... this is really starting to annoy me.

I have just done a clean install to eliminate any type of conflicts. About 5 minutes after the boot camp drivers were installed off of the CD that issue started up again. I'm updating to bootcamp 3.1, but I'm not counting on this working, and have no idea where to go from here.
 
same issue with yellowing then flicker

I'm experiencing the same thing. Just bought my 27" imac quad core and installed win xp home. Any luck with solutions? trying to update drivers in windows update, but so far nothing

I have the same problem in windows XP with "the grainy checkered blue/white image". Followed by the screen turning off for some 3 seconds, then on and then all seems fine for a couple of minutes untill the grainy image appears again. and so on.

I have tried bootcamp 3 and 3.1 and updated the firmware by osx updates. Nothing helps.

Sometimes windows XP crashes with message "the ati2dvag display driver has stopped working normally..." The ati2dvag is version 6.14.10.7008.
The ati display driver is 8.661.0.0 (23-09-2009).

(27" i5 with 4850 2010 week 18)

It seems many have this problem, so why has apple/ati not released an updated driver? Is it a driver issue at all?
 
hey guys,

this is my first post, i have a quad core 27 inch imac i5 and i installed windows 7 recently.i had some trouble getting past 'the black screen of death' but i got past it anyway i have the same blue and green spotted issue where my drivers kept crashing and the display sometimes hung but i realized that this issue hardly ever reveals itself when a window is maximized and it never ever happens when a window is on fullscreen( i play a lot of games ).

The ATI catalyst 10,2 drivers solve the problem on my windows XP.

The new catalyst 10,5 solve the problem, but create new issues in 3D games, so if you're using XP use 10,2.

But the ATI installer does not update the driver. You have to update the driver manually by opening device manager and press
-update driver
-install from a list or specific location (advanced)
-don't search. I will choose the driver to install
-have disk
 
Same issue

I have found a troublesome work around. I just restart until it stops doing it. I only use the PC side for gaming anyway and have found that once I'm in a 3d game, the problem totally disappears. I only get flickering and graphcs driver crashes at the desktop level. Once I open a program the problem at least improves.

ATI makes the best video cards, however their support and update are non existent.
