Hi Guys,

Here's one for you -

So, i'm aware that a straight up dvi > dvi to mini displayport adapter doesn't work for inputting a device into the iMac, as a signal converter is needed (because mini displayport carries different signals/packets etc).

However, would a displayport to mini displayport cable work?

I want to use my iMac as a screen for my windows box which has a displayport socket on the graphics card.

Would this setup work? Would there be no conversion needed? Has anybody tried doing so?

Just wanted to check before I go blowing money on cables which I dont need.

Many Thanks :D

I'm using a 5770 in my desktop PC to output to my 27" iMac. The catch is, I had to get the Eyefinity 5 version of this card that has 5 mini-displayport outputs instead of the typical DVI/HDMI/Displayport connections, due to accounts I read about the ATI 5 series cards with Displayport connectors not working with the iMac.

Since the cable is relatively cheap if you get it from monoprice, you aren't out much if it doesn't work. But don't get your hopes up.

Here's a link to a thread on the official AMD forums regarding the issue.

I just installed an ATI (Sapphire) 6870 in my Windows 7 PC. I am using a mini displayport to mini displayport cable and the system works just as advertised. The iMac 27 display is recognized by the 6870 and displayed at the proper resolution. The 6870 also sends sound over the cable to the iMac.
