Hallo,

I have a question for the iMac specialists/upgraders amongst you: I am wondering about a very specific logic board screw (arrow in the image below), which secures both the bracket for the HDD as well as the logic board (image taken originally from iFixit):

iFixit states that this screw has a length of 23.7 mm. According to my knowledge all iMac versions without HDD and with only the SSD lack this bracket entirely. This implies that there is a gap of about 1.5mm which prevents securely fixing the logic board.

What I would like to know is how Apple addresses this gap. Do they use a different, longer screw? Or a spacer? Or am I mistaken and the HDD bracket is still there?

I am asking because I am currently upgrading my iMac (27", Late 2013) with an Apple Blade SSD. I took out the HDD including both brackets and I noticed the 1.5mm gap.

Thanks a lot,
Magnus

I have found out in the meantime that Apple apparently uses two different spacing screws on the iMacs with and without hard drive. I wonder if anybody here would know the Apple parts number?

BTW, for no obvious reason the display hinge seems different as well...

I got additional information from a German iMac user (and model ;-)) who notified me that my initial information is wrong and that Apple indeed uses only one type of spacing screws. Also, regardless of whether a HDD is installed or not, the HDD mounting brackets are always there.

Best,
Magnus
