iMac 27" - Memory Config

Would this memory configuration work?

1GB - 2GB - 2GB - 1GB

Total installed memory: 6GB.

I assume these newer iMacs and Late 2008 MBPs still use the same DDR3-1067 SO-DIMM modules?

Same memory, and yes that config should work just fine.

OP, I would rearrange the modules:
2GB - 2GB - 1GB - 1GB

Exellent. I'm upgrading the RAM on my Late 2008 MBP, so I'll have 2x1GB DDR3 stick lying unused.

The 27" iMac should be here in 2-3 weeks. I'm going to get the base 27" model and put those 2x1GB sticks in for a cool 6GB of RAM.

And yeah, I'll put them in as 2GB-2GB-1GB-1GB.

Why? Can you quote some sort of technical paper that explains why this is a must, or is it just another computer myth?

Depends how the banks are arranged. (haven't looked into) In that case keep your (2) 2GB sticks in one bank, and the (2) 1GB sticks in the other.

mpuck972, might be that things have changed, but in the past, RAM needed to be paired:

I was referring more to why do the 2gb and 1gb sticks need to be in any particular order if they are the same speed.

I think thats just one of those old wise tales that has stuck through the years.
