Well, I got in my new iMac 27" 2.93Ghz with 256GB SSD + 2TB drive.

I got all my stuff migrated over which took about 5 hours and then used it for three hours then it kernel panic'ed and wouldn't boot thereafter unless in safe mode. I took it in to the Apple Store and the genius there ran a bunch of tests and it came up clean for him but after a couple hours working on it he couldn't get it to boot up. His theory was that the SSD was flakey but he wasn't sure. So he had me send it back to Apple.

I thought maybe he'd be able to send it back himself but instead I had to take it home and ship it back myself which was sort of annoying. Also, they won't send a replacement until they receive the old iMac, so between the shipping both ways looks like I will be without a computer for a couple weeks.

Very annoying.

Does having ProCare expedite this annoyance (for future knowledge)? I had AppleCare with the machine but not ProCare.

Good grief, hope it works out for you...
I may buy a refurbished 21.5 with the 3.2 i3...
I think I will run it as it comes for a couple of weeks though before loading data or files...

With a new machine, even with procare they'd rather send it off to give you a new one.

I'm considering getting procare considering all the problems I have. Lets you skip the genius queues, get MUCH faster repairs etc.

somehow everytime i buy a new mac machine i kinda hope that there's something wrong with it..

last 2 times that i've bought a refurbished and i have had a dead pixel or something like that they have given me a very nice discount and overnighted a new machine.. if you call apple and tell them you're in a strong need of a computer they'll ship it as soon as you ship your bad mac..

last time i shipped my imac it was 3pm and received my new one by 4pm the next day.. it was definitely worth the trouble..

when u call apple be nice and they will take care of you

Another option is to just go ahead and buy the replacement computer up front, that way, you can wait until you receive the replacement to send back the defective one. Thats what I did with my return, the only down side is that this pulls about $3000 out of your bank account until they refund you.

...

Sounds exactly like what happened when the OWC SSD took a **** in my MacBook pro...twice

This is why im not considering an ssd just yet. They seem to be very unreliable compared to regular spinning disk drives as of now. And its supposed to be the other way around, so go figure.
