iMac 27" replacement sent from USA

My first iMac 27" I7 that I purchased as a new unit was sent from shanghai. Within 24 hours the hard drive crashed. I received an RMA from Apple, and sent the unit back to Elk Grove, California. My replacement was supposed to ship out when FedEx scanned in my tracking # that Apple provided. Instead, it took an extra 3 days and I was sent an email notifying me of a delay in my shipment. The replacement shipped today except it was sent from Union City, California. Does anything think that I may be getting a refurbished unit that someone else returned? It seems odd that it's coming from California this time. As soon as I get it, I'll be checking the build date.

I think it depends on what weeks it is. My replacement's serial no starts with QP012. So it will be week 12 made in US , which is the latest week bulid (i guess). In this case, I think it will not be a refurbished unit.

If you got the many past weeks, Say week 10 or lower (I just returned my week 11 ), it could be a refurbished one. So you might want to check your iMac serial no. However, I really dont think Apple will do such a thing.

I'm not sure if getting one made in US could be better than one made in China. My past iMacs were built in Chaina and they all had the screen issues. I hope this one made in US will be better since this is going to be my last replacement.

Since each Apple Computer has a unique serial number you could probably call Apple and ask. Also at imac.squeaked.com you can get specific information on your imac by entering your computer serial number I just checked my 2005 G5 and retrieved some information.

Knowing that a specific machine's history is tracked by Apple the potential negative publicity generated by replacing a new imac with an essentially used computer seems unlikely especially with a "smoking gun" tracking history.

I just received my serial # from Apple and found the following information. I was pleased to find out that it is in fact a week 12 build. Also, it was interesting to see that the Factory code was QP (USA) and my first iMac was "Factory: XX (China)". I have high hopes for this one.
