I have two 1gb stick of ram that meet all the specifications for the iMac 27 except the last one listed in the following Apple support article. Has anyone successfully installed 2 x 1gb pieces of ram alongside the standard 2 sticks the machines ship with ????

You can use any Small-Outline dual inline memory modules (SO-DIMMS) that meet all of these criteria:

* PC3-8500
* Unbuffered
* Nonparity
* 204-pin
* 1066 MHz
* DDR3 SDRAM

You can use RAM module sizes of 2 GB or 4 GB in each slot.

we have a ton of ddr3 1gb chips at sitting around, they were all swapped out for 2gb modules in our last laptop refresh.

but yeah the 1gb modules should work though will only give you 2gb more than comes stock.:(
