iMac 27inch i7 any good?

It was released in October 2009, so many consider it "old", as newer CPUs and GPUs are available.

But it comes down to your needs, if you only browse the www and watch YouTube and write essays and do photo editing and video editing on the smaller scale (not RED ONE footage), the current models are quite capable.

It's old in that it will be refreshed in a couple of months. But it's the most powerful iMac and it rivals the base level MacPro (Spec to cost ratio).

Er, that's kinda silly.

It's true an iMac refresh is due. It's unlikely to be anything major though, probably a bump in video and suchlike tinkering around the edges.

The i7 iMac is "old" in that sense alone.

Re "poor", no way. I mean, presuming you know what the deal is with Mac hardware (ie. they are never going to compete head to head with PC gamer rigs or anything, that's not what they are for), totally no. They are amazingly cool.

I wouldn't really call the lynnfields "old." The lynnfield line of nehalem cpus was introduced late last year to accompany the bloomfield nehalems, and are still one of intel's top-of-the-line cpus.

The mobility 4850 was intro'd early of 2009, and will likely get replaced by mobile 5k card, but that still doesn't take away the fact that it's an elite class mobile gpu. Mobile 5k card won't be much more powerful.
