I'm going to be buy a new desktop by the end of this month. I don't really care if they upgrade or not because I going to be buying refurbished.

What I'm using it for is, Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Flash, Dreamweaver, Html, my online classes, everything really. I have about 2900-3000 to spend, if I get the iMac I can save money, and upgrade the ram to 6gb (I think?) or the MP quad 2.8(maybe if I have the $) and a dell monitor, I would like a 24in or bigger.

Any other monitor other than dell, if I can get a cheaper monitor I would like to get the 8 core

or what about a quad 2.8 refurbished, (when ever they have them)

I have a 2.33ghz mbp right now, would having a iMac 3.06 and the mbp be like the same?

In your case, the Mac Pro sounds better suited for your needs. You can always add more Ram later.

Anyone have the quad 2.8? How much faster would it be than a top of the line iMac

I have a refurb Mac Pro 2.8 quad. I think the speed is similar to the top iMac in many situations, but the Mac Pro has much more expansion/flexibility.

Check Barefeats. I can't find it now, but there is a comparison with the 3.06. Here's one comparison with the 2.8 iMac.

Honestly, I Think the new HP monitors blow away the dells in comparison. My friend has both 1 for his pc (gaming) and the HP on his mac.

If you do decide on the iMac, wait until Apple updates them. Even though they didn't get updated at Macworld 09, I expect that there will at least be a speed bump (or maybe quad cores :D ) within the next few months. So just hang on, is what I say.
