If Apple ventures into 3D UI I think they will it implement in other ways than a simple 2D desktop computer.
Maybe they could implement something like this?

If Apple makes the iMac 3D, it means somebody will be finally producing 3D panels better than crappy Full HD.

I don't want Apple to keep waiting for a mythical acceptable glassless 3D. They should just make them soon with RealD technology.

People are now holding monitor purchases because the big ones are not 3D, and the 3D ones have poor resolution.

I disagree. There is no point in having a 3D computer monitor at this point, unless you really want to watch 3D movies on an undersized screen. I very very highly doubt apple will ever make a 3D iMac.

Never. 3D is not practical on a consumer computer. 3D capable video cards for the MacPro cost nearly as much as an entire MacPro.

Pretty much any NVidia GPU since GeForce 8-series is capable of 3D. Blu-Ray 3D playback is limited to 200-series and newer GPUs but those can be had for pennies nowadays.

ok i am a grumpy old man who has no idea at all and happy to still work on normal matte 17" displays , i still cant even see the point of 1080p as i could not really see a difference between a movie played at 720p and one played at 1080p when i had a display that was able to display 1080p ,apart from it was glossy and unusable really , like working in 3d means i always had to work behind my face and the room mirrored in the display and that was nearly 3d , now you want me to sit even in front of a 3d display or even wear a baseball cap with some infrared sensors are you out of your mind :D

so apple please give me displays i can really work on , no glossy mirrors ..please have mercy with someone who needs to work on a computer, i already given up hope on a normal size display , please don't destroy my hopes for a non glossy display or i finally have to make a end to computing in my life for good, once my old matte displays die

In my modest opinion you should totally discard the idea of a 3d imac. A multitouch wont happen at least until 2012.

Pretty sure this is nonsense. All it would take is to output the stereo video image to the 3d monitor & it does the rest. The processing power required to construct such a stereo image of e.g. a desktop UI is insignificant.

And don't say Apple haven't thought about it - just look at the Time Machine UI.
