Depends what you are doing.
Going to dual channel access with a matched 2 GB pair will get you a very modest (6% or so) boost. Whether the extra 1 GB makes a difference depends how hard you are pushing the 3 GB now. If you are doing Photoshop heavily, digital audio or digital video, or running virtual machines with different OSs. then the extra may be worth it.
