Hello MacRumors Forum Members,

I am hoping you can help me with two questions which are somewhat related... I have a brand new iMac 5K 27" with two HP Z32x monitors connected to it. I am connecting the two HP monitors via mini-displayport to displayport cables. Everything with the connection is fine and there is no lag running multiple virtual desktops, etc. I have my iMac mounted to a desk with a Monitors-in-Motion Mantis 30 arm. My HP monitors are on a separate desk away from the iMac. My main usage scenario is to use the HP monitors and not the iMac screen, except when I need to perform some FaceTime calls or audio recordings, etc. Therefore my questions are the following:

1. Since there is no way to turn-off the iMac screen while I use the HP monitors, what would be the best strategy to minimize the impact to the iMac retina display while trying to avoid "burn-in" or other potential to the display since it will not be used. By the way, based on my research I have not found a way to turn it completely off, please correct me if I am wrong.

2. One of the strategies I tried for the last couple days was just to manually to off "automatically turn off brightness under displays in system preferences, then again manually turn the brightness level to 0. Today, I wanted to use my iMac display and of course I could not use the display because the brightness was set to 0. Therefore, I manually adjusted it to a comfortable level. I also went back into the display settings and enabled automatic brightness, however it does not seem to automatically adjust the display brightness based on ambient conditions. Is there a way to reset or correct this?

I have attached a file if you are curious about my setup.

Thank you in advance for your support!
