iMac 5K is Broken.

New iMac 5K, cannot even run fluently 4K 60 fps videos and has poor performance in Final Cut Pro X, even my MacBook Pro Mid 2012 can do it. ¿What the *** is happening?

Specs:

i5 Quad Core 3,4 Ghz

Radeon Pro 570

1 TB Fusion Drive

Might be your fusion drive. Those only contain 32gb of SSD, not enough to sustain good performance with big files.

If you still can, return it and get a SSD. Else you can always run one externally.

It’s not the Fusion Drive, I’m watching videos on YouTube and basically what I can tell you is that I tested this with machines with mechanical drives and they didn’t have problems.

Then bring it to an Apple store and have them take a look at it.

Before that you might want to check your running processes and see if anything is taking all the resources.

I agree with Gimnet, I have a very similar late 2017 27" and plays 4K@60 really well, yours may have a bug.

The 1TB Fusion Drive is a lemon with its severely limited 32GB of SSD.

The best way out may be a fast SSD connected in an external caddy via USB3.

also right click "Statics" on YT to see if you drop frames.
I already did the Apple System Check, and it said that it was working correctly. But man, I feel the thing slow, choppy and unstable, does the System Check work correctly? Or in Apple Customer Service they have more options?

What browser are you using to watch the video you linked on YouTube? If Safari you're not getting 4K since its not compatible with their codec. I have had no issues with 4K video on other sites like Vimeo. My iMac is similar, just a small step up.

Watched the video (2160@60) and had a total of 98 dropped frames out of 18288. They all occurred within the first 15-20 seconds. I ran it a second time to rule out any buffering issues causing the dropped frames and got roughly the same number (91 on the second run).

To me (and your mileage may vary) 90-ish out of 18,000 is acceptable, as I didn't really see the drop.

(Also, I watched via Chrome, as I don't know what you have to do to get 4K videos to play on Youtube in Safari)

Safari went H264 when YouTube went VP9. Until one of the two adds the other codec it will not be an option.
