OS X 10.6.4
Core 2 Duo
2.4 Ghz
ATI Radeon HD 2600
2 GB RAM
Greetings,
As the title says, my iMac freezes - a LOT. I never know exactly when it will go, but it will not keep a usable session going for more than a few hours at the very most - sometimes it will freeze within a minute or two of booting. Logging in 2 or more users and trying to switch between sessions seems to be a fairly good way to make it die.
The freeze seems to involve the video system. The UI will freeze completely and never return, but while frozen I can still ping/ftp/etc it over the network, although it seems to be running pretty slowly when I do that. I should make it clear that no amount of waiting has yet resulted in the machine running properly again without a hard reset.
Booting into safe mode seems to stop the freezing, but then of course I'm in safe mode - not a very useful solution. Applecare has of course run out on this old thing, so bringing it in for repair is my absolutely la$t re$ort.
Any interesting ideas as to how to address this would be most gratefully received. Thanks!
