Just wondering if ANY 2.5 inch SSD will work when swapping the hard drive? I've heard certain brands may have compatibility issues. Just wanted to double check

Any ssd should be fine if your iMac has an hdd attached, the crucial MX series and the Samsung evo will give you the best bang for your buck.
