I have an Apple iMac 2.66GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB ram (Early 2008) 8,1
i'm still using Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Does anyone have experience with this iMac and ML?
I use my mac for HD video editing (not professional)
And I just want speed/high performance.

Is it better and make it things easier if I install Mountain Lion?
Does Mountain Lion use more ram? Because I don't want a slow computer, (But maybe I can make it faster to delete something I never use like Dashboard,...?)

Is it a good choice to do a clean install and upgrade my ram to 4GB?

What should I do?

thanks in advance! :)

I've got a 8,1 iMac (2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo & ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256MB) which I have upgraded to 6GB memory and a hybrid HDD/SSD 750GB hard drive.

I upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion and haven't had a single problem, if anything the whole system does seem (could be in my mind I suppose) to be a fair bit snappier when it comes to loading programs and executing commands. I don't seem to see the beach ball as much and haven't had a program crash on me yet....(touch wood)

I use my computer for CAD (AutoCad), photography (Lightroom, CS4 & Aperture), gaming (Steam) and Parallels with Windows 7. It does all of the above as well as the usual web, iTunes and MS Office without a problem.

I certainly think the upgrade has been worthwhile and has so far only resulted in positive changes. It's just a shame my Core 2 Duo Mac Mini isn't compatible with the Mountain Lion upgrade, can't understand what there is within Mountain Lion that means the integrated graphics of the Mini can't cope??

I'm using an 8,1 iMac to post this. My specs are:

Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics:ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 128 MB

Mountain Lion runs fine as long as you have at least 4GB of RAM. There is some minor lag when launching Mission Control and Launchpad, but that's all.

iMac 8,1 here too

- 2.66Ghz Core 2 Duo
- 4GB RAM
- ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
- Samsung 830 SSD 256 GB

Works great with Mountain Lion. Very fast!! Boots in seconds and most apps launch in < 1 sec.
