We just had a circuit overload in my office, which caused all of the computers to perform an abrupt shutdown. Even though my iMac seemed to come back up just fine, is there anything I should do at this point to make sure the system is clean?

I'm concerned about all sorts of cache or temp files that may have been left in some state. Anything I should be doing proactively to clean this up?

Is it true that when your mac has turned off unexpectedly because of whatever reason (power outage for example) you have to repair disk permissions when you start it back up again or is this just a rumor?
