iMac + Airport card gives me hell

Hi.

I have a really serious problem with my new 24" Aluminum iMac (it's the latest generation).

I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router in my house.
Every time I turn the iMac on or awaking it from sleep mode, the airport is receiving bad signal for like 20-30 minutes and the internet doesn't work, only after that amount of time, he gets full signal and the internet works.

This computer is my work and I just can't work like that.

I don't know what to do, some told me to take it to the lab but I can't, if I take it to the lab I will lose days of work and the closest Apple store to my house is 1.5 hours driving.

Some told me to re-install the OS but it has so much material on it (backed up on time machine but still) it's just a stupid and long process and everything works good except for that.


What would you suggest? do you think it's my router that does the problems? because I also have a MacBook who has no problems with it at all.

Same Problem!!

I have to same exact problem on my new 20 inch iMac i just received for Christmas..It is the latest generation...Every time I turn my computer on, my signal is only half way and doesn't work at all. I have to turn my airport off and then back on again for it to get signal, but sometimes that doesnt even work and I need to go and unplug my wireless router from the modem and re-plug it to reset the internet..this makes it work but it is just a pain in the butt to have to do every single time i turn my computer on. And no its not your router, because I have a lynksys wireless N router to that is brand new and every other dell computer in my house gets full signal..so it definitely has to be something with the internal wireless card in the iMac. Please post if anyone has any other information on this problem or if you are having the same problem.

I've had troubles like that with my linksys so i avoided it and took it back and got a dlink, its firewall is really good and hardcore, try to put in the ip 192.168.1.1 and try to reset it from there just to see. Otherwise i cant really say much besides I dislike linksys, and cisco for that matter .

Try and do a hard reset on your router, after that get rid of all the security on your wireless - see if that works - if it does, then apply your previous settings, that may point out the issues.

I had the same issue with my iMac when I first got it - it wouldn't even pair with my Belkin N1. I eventually fixed it by doing a hard reset on the modem and set up everything again.

You should try setting the wireless security to WPA2+AES, if I'm correct Macs don't like TKIP.

Anyway, after a few weeks of usage the wireless started playing on me again - the internet would not work until a restart of the wireless on the mac - so I went out and bought an Airport Extreme; it's been flawless ever since!
