iMac and SSD on Model Identifier: iMac7,1 (24" ALU Intel CPU)

Does anyone have experience or knowledge if one can replace the original 500 GB SATA drive in a iMac 24" (Model Identifier: iMac7,1)

I've seen threads mentioned for the latest generation iMac's but wanted to check before making a purchase.

Was thinking about getting the Generation 2 Intel SSD 160 GB drive when Intel makes it available again and getting a 2.5 --> 3.5 dock enclosure.

Don't know if the SATA and power connections are the same physical size for the 2.5 drive to slide in.

You will need 3.5" to 2.5" SATA adapter and I'm not sure how does it fit in iMac. Imation makes 3.5" SSDs but they are quite expensive and slower than good 2.5".

Thanks ... I assumed I'd need to by a 2.5 to 3.5 converter ... i.e.

to make sure it fit into the iMac 3.5" hard disk location and to the connectors (power and SATA) that exist inside the iMac.

i.e. buy 2.5" SATA SSD (Intel Generation 2) and plug it into the IcyDock 2.5 to 3.5 converter and jam that sucker as a unit in place of the 3.5" 500 GB SATA HD that is removed from inside the iMac.

Just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything in the iMac equilvanent of a BIOS that prevented this from working on anything in the chipset that the iMac is using.
