iMac Applecare+ discounts?

It used to be that one could find Applecare (boxed or digital) for sale on Ebay and all kinds of places at decent discounts - as far as I can tell now there is nobody discounting off of the full retail price of $169 (iMac version).

Does anyone know of any place discounting it?

I just checked B and H where I've previously purchased discounted AppleCare. They have nothing on offer for an iMac. However, they do have a curious entry for Enterprise support at $49,995.

I know that's not helpful to your situation. I was just surprised something like that existed and had to share.

I doubt you will find AppleCare+ at a discounted price but if you don't require the accidental damage coverage the standard AppleCare is apparently still being offered by Apple if you call the Apple Store and directly request it. It is not available for purchase online.

I don't know the exact price but it should be less than AppleCare+. For my current 2017 iMac I found a boxed copy of the old AppleCare on Amazon for $90. I don't need accidental damage coverage for a machine that just sits on my desk.

Curious on how you activate these boxed Applecares? Any concern that when you buy it, the coverage type is not applicable to your model? Like Apple may say ‘oh we can’t activate ‘regular’ AC on this type of machine, has to be AC+’

So long as you get an unopened (not previously registered) version of AppleCare for iMac it will be able to be used with no problems on any new or refurbished iMac within one year from the date of purchase.

As mentioned, even Apple itself is still offering, although not openly advertising, the standard AppleCare without damage coverage if requested by telephone.

I would absolutely advise against ever purchasing AppleCare on eBay, particularly the sales of registration codes.

OK. But how do you actually register the activation? I assume you get a code in the box, and you call Apple and have them assign it to your serial number?

If you buy a boxed version of AppleCare you will have to call Apple to process the registration. It is no longer possible to activate the standard AppleCare online.

If you call Apple to purchase the standard version they will handle the registration for you at the time of purchase.

AppleCare+ with damage coverage requires purchase within 30-60 days depending on the location of purchase and the running of a remote diagnostic but standard AppleCare can be bought within one year.
