Hi there. I currently own an old 24" early 2008 iMac. Being that it's so dated, I've decided I want to move onto a newer rig. However, I don't want to sell or trash it just yet.

I wanted to know if it's possible to use my current desktop as a screen for a newer setup.

Early 2008 24" iMac - Specs:

· OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

· Processor: 3.06 GHz Intel "Core 2 Duo"

· Memory: 2GB (800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, PC2-6400)

· Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS 512 MB

· Storage: 3.5" 500GB HDD

Please reply below with any insights you may have. Thank you.

which?

Yes-- a limited number of imac vintages could be used as monitors. And there are probably a number of all-in one Windows PCs with "hdmi-in" or "display port in" sockets that could also be used this way. I think my mom's Lenovo does this.

But as is, your imac does not support this.

see this thread https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/using-imac-g5-as-external-monitor-it-can-be-done.1110159/

if you want to learn what's involved in adding a display controller to your imac. I expect that the part numbers will be different, as that imac had a g5 (and a different display)
