OK so here's the rundown of what I am trying to do.

I have an iMac with an external monitor and an LCD TV that sits behind me (when I am sitting using my iMac).

What I want to do is split the video signal that goes to my external monitor, to also go to the TV. I purchased a VGA splitter for this purpose. HERE is where all the problems begin:

The iMac would freeze up when I plug the splitter with the monitor + the tv connected into the Mini DVI adapter. It would take literally about five minutes for the iMac to be responsive again, and after the five minutes, all of the monitors would show a picture on the screen. So far so good.

Now, is there a way to scale the higher resolution of the monitor, to the 1366x something that the TV uses, so I am not stuck at using 1024x768 on a widescreen, or 1280x800 and have it look like crap on the external monitor when I am just working? Honestly I do not care if the TV picture looks like crap, but I do care if the ext. monitor does.

Another problem is front row, I would like to still be able to use my iMac on my iMac's screen, but when you open Front row, the menu opens up on my iMac, not the secondary monitor, and also, all the screens would blank out, not allowing me to use the iMac's screen for other purposes.

Anyone have some sort of script etc for my unique setup? I DO NOT want to buy another computer or something for this purpose, I have always wanted my iMac to be at the center of my entertainment in this room. Pretty soon I even plan to get X10 controlled lights.

Would a USB video card dealy be a better solution? All of the "Mac versions" of this are expensive than their PC counterparts, so I would like to avoid this if possible.
